Frequently Asked Questions

If you don’t see your question here, please contact us at info@owens-flooring.com

Where can I buy Owens Flooring?
Distributor Locator is forthcoming.
Why should I use an NWFA certified installer?
Work with the best! The National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) provides hands-on and classroom instruction with over 30 years’ experience in the wood flooring industry. NWFA Certified installers have access to technical resources as well as continuing education/workshops to keep pace with new technology. Find an NWFA certified installer at www.NWFA.org “Certified Professionals”.
Do I need to acclimate Owens Flooring before installation?
Yes absolutely! Acclimation is the process of allowing the wood flooring moisture content to equalize with the installation environment. The building must be enclosed and all wet work completed before starting acclimation. Owens recommends acclimation in a controlled environment between 35 – 55% RH, with humidification or dehumidification as required.
What are Owens’ recommended adhesives for glue down installations?
Owens’ Glue Down Installation Instructions list several adhesives with excellent bond strength. Some products have added moisture control capabilities, when applied in accordance to the adhesive manufacturer’s requirements. Owens recommends the silane-based Bona R851 adhesive for factory-finished wood flooring for the ease of clean up. Always consult the adhesive manufacturer’s directions for use and warranty as it relates to your specific site conditions.
Can Owens Flooring be installed over radiant heat?
Owens Flooring products can be installed over hydronic radiant heating systems. The operating system must be equipped with thermostat control to ensure the surface temperature of the wood flooring never exceeds 81°F. Reference Owens’ Installation Instructions for additional pre-installation requirements for radiant heat applications.
Why does my flooring have gaps between boards?
Seasonal gapping or dry-cupping is caused by a decrease in moisture content of the wood flooring. Maintaining your home’s relative humidity between 35 – 55% RH will reduce these seasonal fluctuations. Gapping or cupping that is not improved with humidification may be a sign of a more significant moisture and/or installation-related issue.
Will Owens’ factory finished flooring scratch or dent?
The Janka hardness rating is used to compare wood species’ density. The higher the Janka rating, the more dense and dent-resistant the flooring. Dents and scratches can still occur in even the most-dense wood specie. Preventive care will extend the life of your wood flooring. Reference Owens Flooring Wood Floor Care, Maintenance and Warranty.
How do I clean my floor?
Vacuum, dust or sweep, your wood flooring at least weekly. Wipe up spills immediately. Use a damp cloth or hardwood floor cleaner such as Bona Kemi, Basic Coatings or equivalent name brand to clean factory or site finished flooring. Never wet-mop (mop & bucket) or steam clean wood flooring. Additional guidance and precautions noted in Owens Flooring Wood Care, Maintenance and Warranty. For oil finishes such as Rubio Monocoat, refer to the finish manufacturer’s care and maintenance requirements.
Who do I contact for Warranty concerns?
Contact your retailer or distributor first to assist you with gathering the required information and investigating your concern.
